About Go Graham Go!

Hi there!  My name is Felicia Carter, but I also answer to Sasha Jo, Shush Shush and Mama to name a few.  I really enjoy a warm fire, dark chocolate, salty tater tots, old people, peach tea and french vanilla creamer (with a dab of coffee).  I'm a southern girl and will more than likely call you ma'am or sir.  You can't stop me.  It really has nothing to do with your age.

I'm married to my wonderful husband of 11 plus years, Matthew Carter.  I married him at the ripe old age of 19 and we've been together in the mountains of North Carolina ever since!  He spends his days as a project manager/division manager for a local steel company.  I am amazed by his handy man talents and often feature his smart ideas!  I have been his biggest fan and he has been my biggest supporter {two college degrees, two kids, a crazy blog life and more}.

We have two children.  Graham {born 2007} and Davis {born 2010}.  Both boys are full of energy, are total stand up comedians and teach me every day.  They have me laughing with their crazy antics on a regular basis.  I have been known to share a few of them with readers over the years.  God has truly blessed us.

I am a school counselor by profession and am lucky enough to be employed only part-time.  Yes, my job remains even in a very uncertain economy for the public school system.  I've been negotiating a job share situation since 2007 and it has been the best decision for my career and family.  I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in 2003 and decided that a career as a social worker was not in my future.  I really wanted to help people on a more personal level.  By people, I meant teens.  So, in 2004 I went back to school to obtain my Master's Degree in counseling.  Those were some of the toughest, yet most enlightening 2 years of my life.  In 2008 Go Graham Go was created.  The site started to grow and a new career grew with it.  Social media and being a mom blogger has not only been an eye opener, but it has opened up a world of opportunity for me as well as created friendships that I will likely have forever.

Why Go Graham Go?
This site was originally created to share all of the info I learned while researching products while I was pregnant and after. A few friends of mine were all pregnant at the same time and this site was created to put all of the research in one place for future reference. I had no idea what a blog was when I started, but now, I have created friendships and made connections that will last a lifetime. I not only share my product finds, but share my knowledge as a counselor and my experiences as a mom.  You will find many DIY, recipes and craft ideas that are simple and fun!  Oh, and I believe in seeing things in action, so please don't make fun of my country accent in my YouTube videos, ok?

Why Simplify, Save, Grow and Go?
This is my philosophy: Make life simple, save money {and sanity}, grow {spiritually, physically, personally}, and go {live life to its fullest}. Go Graham Go started out being a statement about watching my first son grow {Graham} and has become a lesson on how my children encourage me to go and grow daily!

    I am not blog hopping (too tired this month) but I wanted to stop by and say hello. I always mean to stay longer. Read a little more.

    Tonight I did. You sound like someone who is a nice person and would be a good friend. I like that! :)

    Hi Felicia!

    Thanks for letting me view your website. As a single mother to a 11 year old girl I have learnt many things along the way. The most important of all is this one:

    If you wish to raise your child to be sociable, a well balanced, well behaved, loving, caring child who is emotionally stable, then during the first 3 years of his/her life get involved in reading with the child. But not just reading, the parent must ask the child how certain parts of a story makes him/her feel. It's the triggering of the child's emotions at a young age that makes the child most likely to be very adaptable and caring of other's feeling whilst growing up. To do this you are preventing yourself a lifetime of heartache.

    Take some advice from a parent who never done this with her own daughter. I read about it after it was too late. It really hurts to see my daughter be selfish, uncaring, and unable to fully grasp the meaning of friendship. I still have hope for her and I'll never give up on her.

    Good luck to all the parents out there. We all need the extra help we can get.

    I'm so glad I found your blog! My relationship with God and His Son Jesus is my first priority, too! Next is my husband and family. And I agree with you about elderly people having much to offer. I have quite a few elderly friends (mostly from church), and they have so much wisdom!

    Hi! I just recently found you site while searching for mommy blogs. I saw your a school counselor and that made me wonder if you have any blog posts about helping kids with problems in school, such as them not focusing in school, forgetting to bring home hw, getting bullied, etc. If not do you happen to know of any great sites I could look at? I'm a single mom of a 4th grader and needless to say school time is tough time for us. So any advice or stuff I can learn that other parents have tried is great. Same for any other subjects involving kids; teaching manners, respecting other people, discipline.

    @Ashley,

    I do post on those topics from time to time. It is so hard to be a parent now days and I have help! I can't even imagine being a single parent. I did an entire series on manners that you could check out! Just look in the categories (right side bar) for Well-Mannered Child.
