Water, Water Everywhere?
We've all heard and hear every day how important it is to drink water. Just tonight as I was watching my favorite show, The Biggest Loser, Jillian was reminding the participants of how important it is to drink plenty of water because it speeds up your metabolism and helps with weight loss. I've even read that if you cut sodas out of your diet and stick with water you can loose 10-20 lbs in a year! Any mother knows that drinking water is extremely important when you are pregnant! A pregnant mother needs 6-8 glasses of water a day and even more if there is exercise going on. The water is the bodies transportation system for all of the vital nutrients that baby needs. It also helps keep your urine diluted which helps to decrease your chance of bladder infections (common in pregnancy). In the third trimester it is EXTREMELY important to drink plenty of water. If your body becomes dehydrated you could actually go into preterm labor! I can remember times when I felt like I was having contractions early and 3 glasses of water later the contractions stopped.
When you are nursing water becomes a factor yet again! In order for you to have milk your body needs something to make it from! A lot of times when women feel they are getting low on their supply they need to check their diet and water intake! I can remember holding Graham nursing with one hand and drinking a glass of water with the other!
With all of that being said, there are countries who do not have the luxury of turning on the sink and getting a glass. Can you imagine being pregnant and not being able to find clean drinking water? How about trying to nurse a hungry infant and not having the proper hydration?
1.1 billion people lack adequate hydration due to a shortage of clean and safe drinking water. What if you could help one person have a year of clean drin

That's all we drink. I don't keep juice in the house. If my kids get it, it's because they're constipated or getting a treat. We drink water from the filtered fridge dispenser and order water when we go out to eat. I just like the way it tastes, feels refreshing and it has a great price!

Great tips and I agree also very true. When I was pregnant for baby number 2 I was hospitalized because I was dehydrated and in pre-term labor. They hooked me up to IVs and I had to stay overnight until they got the contractions under control. I was only about 26 weeks along at the time. So yes drinking water is very important. Thank you for sharing!

This is such a wonderful cause. Safe water is important and it is not that difficult to make sure that the whole world has clean, safe drinking water. It makes such a difference in people's lives.

I don't drink anything but water..and no, I can't imagine having been pregnant with no access to water. It is so sad.

In this day and age it really is a disgrace that the most basic needs cannot be provided to all people.
I buy a certain brand of water. For every bottle I buy 1Euro is donated to a fund which goes into building water wells in Ethiopia.
You have a great blog, very informative! Thanks for visiting my blog....and don't worry, I ALWAYS check both dryer and washing machine for any small, furry animals lurking in there :)
