"Hello. My name is Graham and I am an Elmo-a-holic."

Saturday, February 28, 2009 Posted by Felicia

There were so many things that my husband and I said we were going to NOT do for Graham before he was born. You know, things like, "We will never let him in the bed with us and create a bad habit," (rule broken on our vacation when he was disoriented and woke up at 4 every morning) or things like "We are not going to be those parents who let their child become obsessed with Elmo." Ok, reality check...you don't get to CHOOSE what they fall in love with! Cars, or beep beeps as he calls them, airplanes, and choo choo trains are among the faves but Elmo takes the grand prize ribbon on most occassions!

What is it about Elmo? Does anyone know the answer to this question? I have yet to meet a toddler who does NOT love Elmo. (If you have one I really want to know). My only thoughts are that Elmo is easy to relate to and appealing because of his bright red color. His voice sounds very child-like and therefore easy to relate to? Elmo is like the Baby Einstein for Toddlers!!

FYI: Our local Target has a TON of Elmo items featured in their $1 section right now! Those Elmo stickers make for great potty training rewards (there are also some cute Elmo socks we couldn't resist). You can check out www.sesamestreet.org for games, videos and more if you need even more of an Elmo fix!

Graham has been showing a lot of interest in potty training lately. He has his days when he isn't very interested at all and then other days he is all over it! I happened upon the Elmo's Potty Time DVD last weekend and thought, "Hmmm...Elmo + Potty = Success!" Very true! Graham has shown the most interest now than ever before! Could it be a coincidence? Possibly...but I tend to lean towards the Elmo charm factor! La, La, La, La....La, La, La, La.... Elmo's World.. for real!!!

Lucas LOVES Elmo! We got him an Elmo Live for Christmas and every morning after breakfast he runs to the toy closet downstairs, points, and says "EE EE" that means Elmo-LOL. So, I get Elmo for him and he hugs and kisses him! Then, he runs off with Elmo in tow.

I love this post! It is soooo true! Before I had kids, I said "no elmo"- it is over rated...little did I know that Elmo puts his charm on the little ones and it is all over! I'm embarassed to say that we actually had an Elmo Christmas one year! (really smart, because everything was singing that year...the SAME song!) But Luke loved Elmo (and still does, although now at 3 he has other favorites)

We also had an Elmo potty training book and I think it helped...it at least got him used to the idea of using the potty (however, I really honestly think that they decide to learn on their own time and nothing we do will make it faster)

Just one other note-if anyone is close enough to take a vacation to Sea World (CA), it is really worth it. You can have Breakfast with Elmo (and friends) and it is such an amazing experience to see the look on your child's eyes when he/she meets Elmo in person! (by the way, we got our tickets to Sea World AND the Elmo Breakfast FREE using our reward points on the Discover Card) :)

My two oldest girls loved Elmo when they were little, but Bub doesn't seem the least bit interested in him, thank goodness because I couldn't stand watching that show and listening to him.

Bub prefers Diego which I can handle because I swear he's learned Spanish while watching that show and playing with his Diego toys...it amazes me that he can't say "I love you", but he can say all kinds of words in spanish...maybe I'll try teaching him to say it in Spanish...lol!

Wee Man thank goodness never loved Elmo. However, potty training with Wee Man was tough until I got him the Peter Potty.. The funny thing is it WORKED! Hubby did have to show him how it worked but after that it was done... The only problem was teaching him to use the toilet for pooping; but he got that quickly. Here's the link to the site in you want to check it out...http://www.peterpotty.com/

We have Potty Time with Elmo too. I like the Bear in the Big Blue House potty DVD and Potty Power more.

My kids like Elmo. But Keeg is obsessed with all things Super Heros. He never got into Thomas the Train like his cousin. And we tried Matchbox/Hot Wheels - but nope. But Super Heros - LOVE.

Lucky for me my oldest never really go into Elmo. But Benji loves him too, all though right now Elmo is close second to the Movers. I let him watch Elmo when I need some quiet time for myself, all though is it really quiet time when I have to listen to Elmo?
