Kimochis: Toys with Feelings Inside

Before I was a high school counselor I worked with elementary level students. It was always so hard to find quality products and items to help strengthen my practice for younger kids. Well, one mom has developed a wonderful idea that isn’t just for counselors, parents can help their kids learn all about feelings and how to express them!Kimochi means "feeling" in Japanese. These adorable, soft toys actually have feelings inside with faces that represent the feeling as well as the name of the feeling written on them. There are 5 different plush toys to choose from. We received Cloud. Cloud is special because his head can turn completely around to show either a happy face or a sad face. Of course, he has the feelings tucked away inside of his front pouch.

The Kimochi offers a real opportunity for learning emotions while playing. Parents can get involved and help their children learn all about what each feeling means. Questions like, “What makes you feel happy” as you pull out the “happy” feeling can help create some great conversations!
