Father's Day Find: The NEW iPod Shuffle (best bang for your buck)!

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Posted by Felicia

I have been on the look out lately for the best mp3 player for my money on the market. The fact is, it truly needed to fit some pretty specific criteria. For my husband, it needed to be able to hold plenty of music as well as be easy to run or bike with. It also needed to be easy to operate while doing work around the house. Let me introduce you to the new, 3rd generation, iPod Shuffle. This tiny device has everything you are looking for with a price tag that doesn't hurt!

This is the world's smallest music player with several features that you will be amazed with! If you take a stick of chewing gum and fold it in half, that's about the size of the new iPod Shuffle (1.8" tall and ".3" thin). It is no larger than a AA battery. The size makes it nice for jogs, biking, or working around the house. You simply clip the iPod to your pocket or even the sleeve or your shirt and head out.

The controls are easy to use and conveniently built-in to the right ear bud cord. It's a simple, three function control. It has volume up, volume down, and a single button in the middle to control the song and play list selection. You can create separate play lists for home, workouts, or for anything you can think of! The top has a switch you can push to the left to have your music shuffled, middle for songs to play in order, and right to turn it off.

The new iPod Shuffle also features a brand new technology called VoiceOver. When you press and hold the middle button on your controls the music fades and speaks the names of the play list that you have created or the song you are listening to and who is singing it. You can then cycle through them and select the play list that you prefer. This handy function takes away the need for a screen which is one reason why the new iPod Shuffle is so small. If you have been waiting for a reason to buy your first, or a new iPod, the new Shuffle is what you have been waiting for. The 4GB iPod Shuffle has enough capacity to hold approximately 1,000 songs. It's very easy to use, charges from your computers usb port, comes in silver or black and all the software is available free from the iTunes store. With a price tag of about $79, this would be an excellent gift for dad!

By the way, Graham is pictured above with the new iPod Shuffle merely for a fun photo. I clearly do not suggest that you use ear phones with small children or give them a $79 piece of equipment!

I have thought about this from time to time for my husband. He loves music, but the only ones to have ipods/mp3s in our home are 18 and younger! I wasn't sure if it was too small--you know, it could get lost easier? I think it could be a good fit--just need to find out if the lack of screen would be a deal-breaker!

Thanks for the review and pictures! They were very helpful!

    Have a great day!

    That is so little!

I would say the lack of a screen is a deal breaker for me. I have one without a screen and it drives me nuts trying to find the songs I want.

I suppose the screen could be a deal breaker if you were just a casual mp3 user. But, if you are a biker or runner, you know that you don't have time to be looking down at your mp3 screen.. so the size is more of a convenience because you can't even tell you have it on while you are running it is so light! Long story short.. it doesn't get in the way when you have your mind focused on things other than the bulging mp3 in your pocket.
