Any Milk Drinkers in the House?

Thursday, July 16, 2009 Posted by Felicia

Our family generally does not consume a ton of milk. For one, I am lactose intolerant. Secondly, Graham has never liked milk, not even flavored milk and my husband drinks it on occasion with some cookies (we are so healthy right?). Our lack of milk consumption has been bothering me since Graham stopped nursing. It seemed about that time when all the reports were coming out about our nations lack of calcium and the vitamin D deficiency. Milk is not the only place we receive our vitamin D, but I know it can be an important and easy way to get it.

Mom Central introduced me to the Why Milk? website where I was able to take a little beverage challenge and find out just how bad my lack of milk consumption is. The Beverage Analyzer allows you to put in your height, weight, and how much you consume as far as liquids go in a day. Once you have it all inputted the analyzer tells you how you are doing and where you could make improvements to have an overall healthier life (not just milk intake).

The best part about Why Milk? is the fact that it provides several different summer concoctions that look delicious! I can't wait to try out the Banana Delight Smoothie for Graham. This could be a sneaky way to get your milk-a-phobic toddler to entertain some calcium!

We don't drink a ton of milk either, but twice a week seems ok for us. I remember a friend of mine was shocked that we didn't consume more :)

And the smoothies and such does make it even more fun!
