Ask Go Graham Go and a Contest: Does My Sippy Cup Contain BPA?

Carolyn asks: "Are all Playtex plastic products BPA free, no matter when they were manufactured?"
Good question. I am definitely no safety expert, but I would say if you have plastic cups (no matter the manufacturer) that are a couple of years old I would throw them out and buy new ones that are definitely BPA free. Not only do you want to make sure they are BPA free, but imagine the bacteria that has crept up in the crevices of those sippy cup valves over the years... eeewww!
"What are your recommendations for good BPA free sippy cups?"
This is a hard question because it really does depend on your child. Graham's favorites have always been the ones that have straws. Not only can these be easier (no tipping, etc), but several dentists have recommended them because they help to keep the juice and milk away from the teeth. Our favorite: Straw Bottle Foogo by Thermos (made from stainless steel, keeps drinks cold for up to 12 hours, easy to operate)!

Thanks for this post! This is such a wake up call for me. I have been using my dd old sippy cups 6yrs - I know gross right? They are well cleaned, but I never gave a second thought to them containing BPA. Looks like there will be a Target trip in my near future:)
Thanks again.

I have to recommend the Safe Sippy from Kid Basix. It is stainless steel with a silicone sleeve for easy gripping, comes with the regular sippy top, a straw adapter, a plug to prevent it from leaking during transit and a "mud cap" to keep the dirt out. I LOVE it, especially because I know it's safe! My son, at 6 months is still getting the hang of it. He loves playing with it though, probably because of the colors. We have green with bright orange handles and top. That brings to mind another plus: the handles are curved inward so I don't have to worry about him sticking himself in the eye! All in all a great product!!

I had older Playtex cups from my first son, who is now 4.
I got new ones for my younger son. I happened to get new ones because the old ones were starting to leak. The newer cups have a cloud to the plastic that the old ones do not have. At first I thought, "What's in that water?" But it is the plastic. So the new ones are BPA free, and the older ones are not.

Ewwwe, the beginning of your post is not what I want to think about. My husband is so weird about plastic and sitting water that we get new cups really often.
