A School Week's Worth of Clothes for $50!

Wednesday, September 09, 2009 Posted by Felicia

When I was contacted by Walmart to take the $50 challenge I was a little skeptical. Sure, I know that they have affordable clothes because we buy a lot of Graham's every day clothes there. We can always find great prices and deals every time we go. But, when I thought about trying to buy him enough clothes to make it through a school week (5 days) with just $50, I was wondering how they were going to pull it off.

Believe it or not, most of the items I purchased for Graham were under $5. That wasn't just true in the boys section, it carried over into the girls as well. I also did not purchase anything from the clearance rack. I figured, if this was to be for back to school, we needed to keep it with actual back to school clothes (long sleeves, long pants, etc). Depending on your area, you could get even more back to school clothes for $50 if you shopped the clearance rack, but in NC, we have to look ahead to the chilly falls and cold winters.

WalmartWalmart

I don't know about you, but it makes me absolutely giddy to walk into a store and see signs that say things like "$4.50" or "$5" for clothing! Honestly, you really can't find clothes for less than that in a consignment store.

Walmart

The Garanimals clothing is where I always go first when shopping at Walmart. We literally found him shirts for $3.50

Walmart

I even found a rack of blue jeans for $8. Even when there are huge sales, you rarely find that kind of deal on blue jeans.

100_4184 100_4186

We came home with 5 pairs of pants and 5 shirts. All in all, we ended up spending about $48! Yes, we were under budget for the challenge!

And check him out! This was all purchased at Walmart (minus the Nemo fish). Who says stylish has to cost a fortune?

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Simone!

One way I save when back-to-school shopping is by buying school supplies (paper, crayons, folders, etc.) when they first put them out during the summer and they are cheaper. I also buy enough to last the entire year. Thanks.

I like to be at Walmart early, when the doors open, and head straight for the clearance racks before things are picked over. I recently got my grandaughter 5 short sleeved shirts for $1 each. I matched colors to some jumpers I'd bought and they will mix and match with leggings this fall. Even regular prices at Walmart make this Grandma smile! Thanks!

I also love to browse their clearance racks and shelves (just got TONS of school supplies for a nickel and less on clearance). Even when I need things not yet on clearance, they still have great prices.

Walmart has the best prices on everything as well as great sales on seasonal items. I live in Florida and we can wear short, short sleeve shirts, sandals, for much of the year so the clearance sales are great for us.

I shop end of season sales because you can usually get another couple of months of wear out of them

I always make a budget of what I plan on spend and put that money in an envelope so I don't overspend.

You can find crazy awesome deals on the clearance racks at Wal-Mart, I always look for t-shirts there.

With three kids in school and a spouse in college I have to sale, coupon and price match my way through the school years. I take advantage of every savings I can get. I do find some ladies small sizes that fit my daughters that are on clearance this time of year. I am queenesperfect at yahoo.com
