BabyBjorn Potty Chair and Little Potty
If you are looking for a potty chair that is simple but functional, look no further than BabyBjorn.

I purchased the regular sized Potty Chair when ever Graham first started potty training. I read the reviews and decided that it was the best for my money for what I was looking for. Now, there are no extras on this potty which was great for me! We have limited space in our bathroom so I needed something that would work without all the bells and whistles!
What I love about the regular sized Potty Chair is the fact that the center portion comes up high! If you
have a boy, this is going to be important to you. I found that with several others the center portion just was not generous enough. Graham also seems to be found of how high the back is. If you have a toddler who is full speed ahead this can come in handy! There have been several times when Graham runs and sits down as fast as he can. If there were no back, he would've fallen right off! The center portion lifts out so that you can dispose of the waste easily. The bottom is no skid which also helps when you have a busy toddler! Graham also seems most comfortable on this chair. It is shaped to be inviting to a little ones proportions
!
A friend of mine gave me her Little Potty by BabyBjorn when her kids were through with potty training. It has the same high center portion without the back. It comes in handy while we are traveling. I keep this in my car at all times! It does not lift out in the center, but it is a smaller version of the regular Potty Chair which works great for us!
You can purchase the regular sized Potty Chair for about $27.99 and the Little Potty for about $12.95.
This giveaway has ended! Congratulations to Shannon.

There are days when you really just need to hear an encouraging word, no matter if you are a blogger or not. It is great the connections I have made through this blog and here are just a few of the example of some friends I have made (there are many more...but I would be here all day).

Momma Such from Raising My 4 Sons gave me a sweet award yesterday which just reminds me that there are so many kind people out there. She sent The Best Blog Award and now I'm supposed to pass it along to 15 other bloggers...(some of these are new friends)!

Easy Homemade Mac and Cheese!
Macaroni and cheese is one of Graham's all time favorites! I'm not going to pretend, it is one of my favorites as well. The one thing that bothered me about this was the fact that I'm not sure that all that processed cheese and pasta was the best thing for our bodies. Thanks to a friend of mine, I know have a quick, easy, and much healthier recipe!

Ingredients:
1 box of elbows (I use Barilla Plus because of the Omega-3)
1/4 stick of Velveeta Cheese
Milk for consistency
Butter to taste (we use Smart Balance)
Instructions:
Cook your pasta as directed on the box. Chop the Velveeta into the pasta over low heat. Add milk for the consistency you want and butter to taste. Mix together until the cheese has completely melted. Viola! You're Done! Easy and less processed! (Don't worry if your Macaroni and Cheese seems less orange than the boxed kind. That's normal).

ReliOn Temple Touch Thermometer
Here's another one of those, "I wish I owned this when Graham was an infant" products. I can remember the nights when Graham would be feverish and I would put him to bed and check on him a few hours later. I would tiptoe in, try to get his tiny arm out of the sleeve without waking him and as soon as that cold thermometer hit his arm pit he was awake (usually for the rest of the night). Now there are affordable options for more state of the art thermometers and I think it is about time!I was sent the Temple Touch Thermometer. It works just like it says, with a touch! In 6 seconds you can have an accurate reading of your baby's temperature. The best part, it is non invasive and allows your sleeping child to rest (and possibly you too if you aren't trying to rock them back to sleep). It is simple to operate. Just press the on/off button once and release. Once you hear the unit beep twice you can place it on your child's temple. The next beep should come in about 6 seconds letting you know it is time to read the results. You also do not need tip covers like you do with some of the ear thermometers. There is also a memory recall built in.
The ReliOn Temple Touch works by using a unique sensor that takes readings from blood flow that travels through the blood vessels. This creates heat on the skins surface. You can also use the Temple Touch under the arms. The screen is back-lighted and very easy to read. I tested the Temple Touch against 2 other thermometers we own and they all gave the same reading. So, I am no scientist, but I would say that it stands to be accurate.
You can purchase the Temple Touch for about $9.94!

Promote a Love of Reading in Your Toddler with Tag Junior
It is true that the sooner you can create a love for reading in your child, the easier it will be for them to carry this with them throughout life. It is also true that children pick up on a lot of different things earlier in life. Just think about all they accomplish in the first year. There are tons of neurons firing and synapses connecting that slow down with age. Essentially, we as parents have got to use those little neurons and connections to our advantage! I was sent a product by LeapFrog that is amazing for getting your little one's brain exercising! The LeapFrog Tag Junior looks, to Graham, like a dinosaur. But, he doesn't roar, he READS and ENGAGES! The easily held Tag Junior turns on with the press of a button with an easy access volume adjustment that your child can operate. As soon as we got the Tag Junior out of the box Graham almost instinctively knew how to operate it. Simply press it down anywhere on the book for either questions, sounds, songs, or stories. What I love about the Tag Junior is the fact that it is not just reading the book to Graham, it is engaging him with questions that lead to action. For instance, if he puts Tag Junior over the little girl reading a book, she may ask him to find another animal on the page or something blue on the page. If he answers the question correctly he is rewarded with a word of encouragement. In essence, he is not just developing a love for reading, he is using other learning skills at the same time. Of course, the Tag Junior also will read the words on each page if your child places the device over the words.
I am amazed at how well the Tag Junior works and at how long it keeps Graham's attention. We are currently working on site words and this is a perfect enhancement to what we are learning. The fact that it reinforces things that he has already learned is a definite plus as well.
See it in Action (make sure to turn your volume up):
The Tag Junior is also smart! As a parent you can keep track of how your child is learning by using the LeapFrog Connect program online. Simply connect your Tag Junior to your computer and download the connect program to get started. The online program keeps track of play details (how long they spent with a particular book, what questions were answered correctly, etc), LeapFrog Learning Path (learn what skills your child is mastering and when they reach certain levels), Emails (receive automatic notifications of how your child is doing). There are not many learning toys that have a brain like this one! You can actually see what types of skills your child may need to spend more time on.
I highly recommend the Tag Junior for your 2-4 year old for any occasion. This would make an excellent Christmas or birthday gift. You are definitely going to get your money's worth! What a great way to spend a road trip. For about $34.99 you receive the Tag Junior and a book to go along with it.

Less is More with Charmin + a Free Extender!
I heard a funny line today at work, "Life is a lot like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end you get, the faster it goes"! Isn't it true? It seems like you are always at the end of the toilet paper roll!Charmin definitely has a good thing going. I tend to purchase (when on sale) the Ultra Soft. If you hold a few sheets in your hand along with another brand, you will see the difference. It takes about 20 sheets of the regular brand to equal what you get in a few with Charmin. This can help with the "end of the roll" problem.

Right now you can send in your info to receive a Free Extender! There is also a great place to sign up to receive coupons. If you have a smart phone you can download a VERY helpful app that lets you know the closest CLEAN restrooms while you are out and about called Sit or Squat. This would definitely come in handy on road trips!

School Lunch Makeover!
When I went from full time to part time working in the schools I think I lost about 10 pounds! No kidding! Eating in the cafeteria was packing on the weight. There are some days our vegetable of choice is french fries! Just in time for back to school, Whole Foods is sponsoring a contest to help your school lunch programs healthier.Chef Ann Cooper is known across the US for her work with different school districts helping them come up with healthier lunch plans (maybe some green beans for a veggie instead of mashed potatoes or bread?). You can find out more about her at www.chefann.com. Now, you can use your creativity to bring her to your school! Simply create a one minute video that talks about why your school needs a school lunch makeover. Be original and get the community involved in your effort.
Here is an example video for the contest:

My First Blog Conference. Type A Mom.
At some point this evening I will be attending my very first blog conference, Type A Mom. I was blessed to receive the ticket for free from a great social media guru that won it at a Twestival! He is obviously not a mom and wanted me to have it after a conversation we had about me not being able to afford it. I have to use my conference money for keeping up my license as a counselor so there is little to no room for extras for blogging. Thank you again to Gary at G Social Media! So, after a full day of work I will drag myself over to my very first blogging conference ever. I'm sure I will not be looking perky and fabulous (probably will be carrying the H1N1 virus on my sleeve somewhere), but I'll be there! If you are coming I'd love to meet you (I promise to offer you some hand sanitizer)!
Does anyone out there have any tips for a newbie blog conference goer?

1-2-3 San Fransisco Book
If you are looking for a modern twist on learning numbers, duopress has you covered with a hip new book titled 123 San Fransisco. This colorful and fun book highlights some of San Fransisco's most famous symbols. Count by using the Golden Gate Bridge, Dungeness Crabs, cable cars and more! Graham already recognizes his numbers 1-10 so it is a delight for him to be able to count and read this book on his own. I love how vivid and easy the drawings are to look at. It definitely helps captivate a little ones attention.
The end of the book gives you a key of what each drawing represents along with a location in both English and Spanish. This would be a wonderful gift idea if you are planning on making a trip to San Fransisco. The board book is small and sturdy and has rounded corners for safety. Perfect for little hands! You can purchase 123 San Fransisco for about $8.95 from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Wordless Wednesday: What's in My Luggage.. I mean Purse?
(Clorox Wipes, Extra Strength Tylenol, Cleanwell hand sanitizer, Thermos Intak water bottle, Pouchee, iPhone, wipes, assorted lip balms, Orbit gum)
If this had not been a work day there would've also been a sippy and snack cup thrown in there! I have to clarify and tell you that I was packing the Colorox wipes for school. I don't walk around with them everywhere.. although.. that's an idea!

Snugli Sway Soft Carrier
A staple item for every new mother is some sort of infant carrier. It is even more important if you plan on nursing your infant. There are many out there to choose from and different price options as well. Evenflo has come out with a brand new product that is created just for infants! The Snugli Sway is the first baby sling I have seen with a built in harness to hold the baby securely and positioned properly. There is also an elevated head pillow in order to assist in nursing and the comfort of the child as well as a super soft interior. My favorite part about the Snugli Sway is the extra-wide shoulder strap that helps to distribute the weight of the child across your body. The strap is easily adjusted as well. This carrier even features pockets that can be great for storing pacifiers, burp cloths, wipes, or small toys. If you are already a mother, you know how messy an infant can be. You will appreciate the fact that the Snugli Sway is machine washable saving you time and the hassle of hand washing!
If you get confused by some of the other infant slings that have a bit of a learning curve, the Snugli Sway is a no-brainer. There are no special ways to twist it or stretch it, you simply put it on over your shoulder and you are ready to go.
You can purchase the Snugli Sway from Walmart for about $34.99. This would make a great baby shower idea!

The Fine Friends Are Here!
I'll be honest with you--I'd never heard of Dan Zanes and Friends until recently. Maybe you are like me and wondering who Dan and his friends are OR maybe you've been a big fan of him for a long time.
Either way, after reading this, you are going to want to get to know Dan Zane and Friends in a whole new way!
Dan Zane started his children's music career in the West Village of New York City and hasn't looked back. By 2007, he won the Grammy for "Best Musical Album for Children"--impressive! Today, September 22, is a special one for all current (and future!) Dan Zane fans--he is releasing his first DVD in four years!
The Background:
"The Fine Friends Are Here" DVD celebrates the band's signature rollicking concerts where kids and audience members are a huge part of the show. The concert DVD is set in a fun space (The Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn) and highlights many of the Zanes and Friends well known songs. You'll also get to see three new music videos performed by Zanes and Friends which are really quite fun! Another really great feature about the DVD is that you get a bonus musical CD sampler of four new songs by Dan Zanes.
The Verdict:
Being a Dan Zanes and Friends newbie, I wasn't sure what Catherine or I would think of the DVD. Also, Catherine is young (13-months) and hasn't watched many videos.
The DVD is great because it highlights kids in the audience (and kids love watching other kids!) and also, of course, shows the band doing what they do best--making kids and their parents laugh and have fun while singing. They bring in fun props (elephant puppet theaters and the like!) and turn the concert into a big party where you can't help but have fun!
My daughter only watched a few minutes of the DVD until she got restless but I am positive that older children (2 or 3 and up!) would really get a kick out of watching "The Fine Friends Are Here". We did, however, absolutely love the 4-song musical sample. The four songs are soothing and sweet lullabies.
Catherine now falls asleep to the songs on the CD and I'm sure that someday soon she'll be dancing to the tunes on the DVD!

I'm not a nurse!

It's official. The H1N1 virus has been confirmed where I work. It was bound to happen right? At least, that's what all of the doctor's were saying, "It's not a matter of if it hits, it is a matter of when". Here's why I'm nervous:
Student: "Hey.. there is a kid in your office that is really sick and has been throwing up!"
Me: "My office?"
Student: "YES!"
Me: "Why?"
Student: "Well, because you are their counselor, of course..."
Me: (And do they have a mental illness?) "Uh...ok. Please go back to my office and tell your friend that they need to proceed to the front office, call their parents, and go home."
I give ample time for that student to vacate the premises and then proceed to my office to ransack the cabinets for the Clorox wipes! They are EMPTY! An empty canister of Clorox wipes! The next best thing was for me to grab some tissue paper and some hand sanitizer and make due.
So now what? Do we all walk around with face masks or do what my Assistant Principal suggests and drink our hand sanitizer?

New Obsession!
I really am obsessed with a house that smells clean. My husband and I will try out all the new products that are for home air sanitizing and freshening because it just makes you feel better to have a clean smelling home. Have you seen this yet?

It is the Flameless Luminary by Febreeze and it works wonderfully! This arrived in the mail and I was a little confused as to where it came from (I like to sign up for free samples and just figured it was something I signed up for and forgot about). I later found out that I was selected to receive them (sounds good to me)!
This awesome little fragrance device looks beautiful and fills our home with a fresh smell unlike any other air freshening mechanism we have every used (it honestly takes over the entire living room, dining room, and kitchen). I have received nothing but questions and compliments on it ever since I've been using it. You simply place a new scented shade on the base and it begins to glow (a soft flicker that looks like it is an actual luminary). Of course, you can choose to turn the light off or leave it on and it will turn off on its own in 4 hours.
You can buy the starter kit for about $15 at most retail locations!

Great Scholarship Opportunity for High School Seniors
College is becoming more and more competitive and more and more expensive! I can only imagine how much it is going to cost when it comes time for Graham to head to college (hopefully I'll be through paying off my own student loans by then)!Wendy's has a scholarship program that sounds like a great opportunity for a lot of students. It is called the Wendy's High School Heisman program and is for students who are High school seniors who have a 3.0 average or higher GPA, participate in a school-sponsored sport and contribute to their community. Students are encouraged to apply at www.wendysheisman.com. The application is currently available online! If you are a coach, high school teacher, or counselor you can also nominate students for this program. Here's even more incentive to apply, the first 41,100 applicants will receive a free Wendy's gift card in amounts ranging from $5-$50! What a wonderful way to celebrate all of the hard work your senior has put into school!
So what happens next?
2 students (one male and one female) will be chosen from each high school to win the award. From there they will compete in state and national awards. 12 national finalists will take an all expense paid trip to NYC in December and be featured on ESPN2 for the Wendy's High School Heisman Awards ceremony (airs December 13th). What a great entry for your college resume! Be on the lookout for applicants and individual school winners to be posted on October 22! Good luck!
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Wendy’s and received a gift certificate to giveaway and to thank me for taking the time to participate.
This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Pamela S!
