Bare Skin by Leslie Blodgett

Bare Skin by Leslie Blodgett

Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries

Leslie Blodgett, the CEO behind Bare Escentuals, recently created a line of fragrances exclusively for Sephora. All of her new fragrances are inspired from memories found in her diary, lending the fragrance line the name "Perfume Diaries". These fragrances are limited-edition, one-of-a-kind scents, certain to evoke memories!

Leslie Blodgett's newest Perfume Diaries scent is Bare Skin. Described as an intoxicating blend of creamy sensuality, dreamy florals, and sexy musks, this perfume captures the essentials of freesia, anise, vanilla orchid, and patchouli.

Review: I was very excited to try a sample size of the Bare Skin perfume. While not exactly capturing a tropical, light scent, this perfume definitely smells like the style Leslie Blodgett was going for: warm and romantic. It is slightly musky, lending itself better toward the cooler nights that Fall and Winter are bringing!

Verdict: I think a lot of people would anticipate this perfume to smell light and tropical because of its name, "bare skin". Once I got past the fact that this perfume is not that light summer scent, I quite liked it. It definitely grew on me throughout the day but it did not seem to stay on very long. I found myself having to reapply it before my husband got home so that I could get his take on it--and he found it quite nice! And my husband is, in the end, half the reason why I wear perfume anyway!

Extras: You can find Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries online on Facebook and Twitter or in Sephora stores everywhere. Stop in and pick up a sample for yourself!

Making Life Easier. The Dirt Devil Gator Series.

Making Life Easier. The Dirt Devil Gator Series.

Here's another great gift idea for just about anyone on your list! Dirt Devil has a new series called the Gator series that has arrived this fall.

Around here we need all the help we can get with quick clean ups. There are 2 cats, one very furry Corgi who sheds constantly, and a 2 and a half year old boy! Not to mention it seems a trail of crumbs seem to follow me wherever I go (my husband will be the first to tell you not to sit beside me at dinner). Generally, I have to sweep our floors more than once a day just to keep everything decent. I'm not quite sure why we have never upgraded from the broom, but I was so glad to be introduced to the Dirt Devil Gator 10.8 Volt.

This cordless vacuum is just what we needed when it came to those small, every day messes that need to be cleaned quickly. The 10.8V is light and easy to handle. It has done a great job cleaning up the debris in our car floors, the kitchen floor, and even our couch and chairs. Graham eats a lot of those Kashi TLC bars and their remnants are always on the microsuede material of our couch. Instead of getting a wet rag and brushing it into my hand, (while half of it ended up in the crevices), I can just grab the Gator and I don't even have to touch the crumbs. Press the two side buttons, the door pops open, and you can dump your dirt into the trash without getting messy! There is also a reusable filter you can rinse clean. My favorite part is the built-in crevice cleaner. Simply slide the gray crevice cleaner out and slide it back in when you are done! There are no parts to keep up with which is wonderful for us. Less is more I say!

See it in Action:

The Gator Series can be found in several different voltages (10.8-18V). The price is also a great deal ($29.99-$59.99). You can pick them up at Target, Best Buy, and DirtDevil.com.

This product was provided free of charge by Dirt Devil. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery Review

Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery Review

Anyone remember those easy bake ovens? Well now there is a modern day version that is absolutely fun! We were sent the Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery to review and I spent some quality time with my niece to test it out. We both had a blast!

What's so great about this is that your daughter can create mini cakes by herself! I know that when I was a pre-teen this would've really appealed to me because of the independence factor. My niece is almost 9 and was able to do most of it by herself. I read the instructions to her the first time just to insure we got the measurements right. She was then able to do things on her own. If your child is old enough to operate the microwave then they are good to go on this!

Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery

First you pick out your cake mix (yellow or chocolate). Follow the directions and add water to the cake mix and stir until smooth. You then fill up both cake molds to the fill line. You will probably think you are not adding enough, but it rises when microwaved. After it has been in the microwave for 30 seconds and cools for a minute you are ready to start creating the fondant! Creating the fondant was both of ours favorite part! With just a little bit of water you have pretty pliable fondant that is easy to roll out and place over your cakes. My niece was surprised when the white fondant mix turned blue when we added the water! The Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery also includes different cookie cutter shapes so that you can decorate your cake with fondant shapes like a professional. The last step is to use the gel icing in the gel cartridge to finish off your details. You need to make sure you are ready when you turn on the gel cartridge because the icing starts coming out pretty immediately. There were two speeds for the icing and we kept it on slow. The center of the station rotates so that you can turn your cake as you decorate.

Our mini cakes came out a little lop sided because we didn't get the cake mix completely even before cooking. The good news is that the fondant can cover up many of the mistakes and crookedness. I had a blast watching my niece use her imagination and decorate the cake with smiley faces! It was a little hard for her to cut the fondant shapes out without them smooshing. Next time we will make the fondant a little bit thicker if we are going to be cutting out shapes.

Overall, I think that the Girl Gourmet Cake Bakery would be great for your daughter if she is patient, loves to be creative, and is interested in learning to cook independently. It retails for about $34.99 and you can buy refills for about $9.99. When you purchase the Cake Bakery, it comes with enough cake mix to create two cakes so it might be a good idea to buy a refill kit along with it. It can get kind of expensive, so I would definitely make sure your child is old enough to really enjoy this.

Little Music Lovers for Smart Babies!

Little Music Lovers for Smart Babies!

It's no secret that we are BIG music lovers in this house, and now there is a great way to jump start your baby's and toddler's minds with Little Music Lovers!

Little Music Lovers offers beautiful music from the famous Decca catalog. You know, the music like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart that has been found to help math and reasoning skills when listened to. I remember some teachers in college telling us to study with this music playing. The really cool part is that Little Music Lovers breaks the music down into four different categories depending on your day. There is a CD for play time, story time, activity time, and bed time! The musical pieces that are included on these CDs were selected for their melodic content, as well as their impact on effecting your child's development.

We have been listening to the sampler CD we were sent for review and Graham has enjoyed having this music while playing around the house. I haven't actually used it for nap time just because it is a mix CD with a few more upbeat songs, but honestly, it is so soothing I probably could. So far, we are really enjoying the selection.

You can purchase Little Music Lovers at Barnes and Noble, Borders, Amazon, and iTunes!

This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Gianna!

This product was provided free of charge by Little Music Lovers. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Underage Drinking. Approach Your Kids.

Underage Drinking. Approach Your Kids.

Underage drinking is serious. So serious that I have seen several deaths in my 5 years working as a school counselor related to it in one way or the other. It has been devastating and extremely hard to watch the families who have children who's lives were cut short because of a bad decision.

MADD has now launched a website that is designed to help parents better deal with the touchy issues that surround underage drinking at thepowerofparents.org. There is a place where you can ask Dr. Traci Toomey (expert on preventing underage drinking) any of your questions about the topic. There are even tips for you to read in order to decide if you teen is already drinking. There is even advice on how to get the conversation started when speaking to your teen about underage drinking and destructive decisions.

I know that the world seems to be becoming more and more stressful. Teens are faced with much more than I ever dreamed about dealing with and the stakes are high for college, sports, and scholarships. It is important to get involved as soon as you can and make sure to keep an open and honest relationship with your child. I'm glad there is a resource like The Power of Parents to help parents who are desperately looking for answers.

The website is currently full of tips for your high school aged children, but will soon have tips for elementary, middle, and college. You can even take a Safety Quiz to find out what the odds are of your teen staying safe. Please spread the word to your friends, neighbors, and anyone else who has kids! Also, take the time to show your support of the 21 Minimum Age Drinking Law! I did and it took me about 10 seconds!

My Baby's Own Deluxe Travel Chair

My Baby's Own Deluxe Travel Chair

Here's another one of those products that I wish I would've known about a year ago! One of the hardest things for us to do when Graham was an infant was to go out to dinner. It seemed like there was so much gear we had to lug around with us. One of those things was a travel chair. It was a nice travel chair, but it was heavy and had to be folded just so. You see, Graham did not like to sit in those restaurant high chairs because the backs were so low. But, if we had known about the Travel Chair we could have lightened our load a bit!

I am wondering why someone did not think of this sooner! It is basically a super padded chair that folds up into a carrying bag. It is all connected so there are no pieces or parts to worry about. The Deluxe Travel Chair converts just about any chair into a high chair constraint system. The Travel Chair also has a non slip bottom so that your little one will be snug and secure! There is a four point restraint system that can be adjusted to fit your child securely.

The Deluxe Travel Chair is also a great idea for shopping carts! Again, Graham would not sit up straight in those carts because of all the extra room. This would have been a solution to us getting rid of the infant car seat on the cart (not to mention, much more safe). When you are done, you simply roll it down into the attached bag, sling it over your shoulder, and hit the road! You can start using the Deluxe Travel Chair from the time your child can sit unsupported until about 37 lbs. The chair itself only weighs 7 ounces!

With so many possibilities, no wonder the My Baby's Own Deluxe Travel Chair won the iParenting Media Award. It is available in 2 colors: Red and Navy and retails for $34.99. This would make an excellent shower gift!

This product was provided free of charge by Snazzy Baby. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Family Organization with Cozi + $10 off Shutterfly Photo Book!

Family Organization with Cozi + $10 off Shutterfly Photo Book!

Have you heard of Cozi? Cozi is a free web service designed specifically for busy families to help keep things organized in one place. Cozi offers families an online calendar, shopping lists, message center and family journal to help simplify busy family life.

I was recently introduced to Cozi.com, and I am so glad I was! From the very beginning I was impressed at how easy it was!
I was pleased to find the website very easy to understand and maneuver. It took me only a few seconds to sign up, and right there on my home page was a guide to get me on my way!

I was surprised at how many different things I can do, from making my grocery list (no more sticky notes or stray lists laying around) to keeping track of our family schedule on the calendar, even down to each individual.

One of my favorite features: An online family journal. I can be as short or as lengthy as I want in my entry, and can even upload a photo. The best part about it is that I can email a single journal entry to friends and family members, or I can email a monthly e-newsletter from my journal! What's even better, Cozi turns the journal entries I choose into a cool web page! I can even share updates on
Twitter or Facebook.

Another cool feature of the site is that you can send information to a mobile phone as a text message. Need to remind your husband to pick up the kids after school? Schedule a reminder via text message to his mobile phone! Want to hit the grocery store after soccer practice but don't want to worry about keeping track of your list? Have it sent via text to your mobile phone!

What's even better, now through November 4th, new users who sign-up and try Cozi, the online family organizer, will receive $10 off a Shutterfly photo book! Shutterfly photo books make a wonderful gift and they’re easy to create – upload your photos to Shutterfly, they’ll do the rest and you can gift a professionally bound photo book filled with memories!

Did you know that Christmas is less than 2 months away? It's almost here already! I'd imagine with this economy most of us are on a tighter budget this year, which is why you shouldn't pass up this opportunity. Not only will you get to experience more family organization (for free!), but you'll also be able to check another Christmas gift off your list!

I was given a free Shutterfly photo book as a thank you for this review, however, the views expressed are my own, honest opinions.

HEXBUG Nano! Great Stocking Stuffer Idea.

HEXBUG Nano! Great Stocking Stuffer Idea.

My favorite part of Christmas is always the stocking. I loved it so much as a child because you just never knew what you would find in there. My parents really went out of the way to find unique, but inexpensive items to fill it with. Of course, it is always nice to have something other than candy in the mix as well!

HEXBUG has come out with a 12 legged robotic creature called the Nano. It honestly looks like a real bug when you start it up and let it go. We were sent an orange Nano to review (they come in 5 different colors). The batteries are included and it comes in this sleek looking test tube. Your child will definitely be surprised to pull this out of their stocking! The Nano behaves like a real bug once you flip on the switch. Tiny vibrations send the Nano scampering over various surfaces. It even flips over by itself. It uses the physics of vibration to navigate different items in its path (avoiding items, flipping over, etc).

You can also get involved online! Each HEXBUG Nano is assigned it's own unique serial number and point value system. Simply register your Nano online and take quizzes about scientists in history to achieve more points, build your own virtual Nano, and see how other players are doing.

The best part? The HEXBUG Nano retails for only $7.99! You can find them at Toys R Us as well as Radio Shack.

This product was provided free of charge by HEXBUG. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

2 Great Causes this Christmas Season.

2 Great Causes this Christmas Season.

Each year our church is involved with and helps put together Operation Christmas Child. Tons of people bring in shoe boxes filled with supplies that will help out kids in need in other countries. It is not to late to get involved with this one and it is so much fun! You may even get a letter back from your sponsored child. It is amazing the joy something as small as a tooth brush and crayons can bring a young child. Find all the info you will need to pack a shoe box here. Find the closest drop off location here. There is also going to be a Giveaway of a Veggies Tales DVD Library going on over at Real Life Blog as well as a packing party at 1pm on November 5th at MomTV.com.

Another great way to get involved this season is with Hannah's Socks. When 4 year old Hannah helped her mother at a local homeless shelter she saw a man with holes in his socks and wanted to offer him her own. The next day Hannah and her mother purchased and donated several pairs of socks to the local shelters. Since then, Hannah's Socks has collected over 100,000 pairs of socks for homeless and domestic violence shelters. This year the Colorox company has decided to sponsor Hannah's Socks and strives to donate up to 10,000 pairs of socks to underprivileged children's homes, domestic violence shelters, as well as the homeless. You can find out more about getting involved at HannahsSocks.org. Also, make sure to follow Hannah's Socks on Twitter and promote the charity with #HannahsSocks. You can also follow the charity on Facebook.

Fancast.com. You missed it? You can still see it! Free!

Fancast.com. You missed it? You can still see it! Free!

I am the first to admit that I am pretty cheap and I really do not like to spend on the extras, so, I feel like we are the only family on Earth that does not have a DVR or Tivo! We generally are not that addicted to watching many television shows just because we stay pretty busy with other things. There are, however, a couple of shows that I like to follow and have missed for one reason or the other. This can be a problem if you are an avid 24 watcher such as myself! If you miss one of those shows you are behind!

Thanks to Fancast.com I can now catch up on missed shows for FREE! Fancast.com features over 13,000 full length shows and more are being added daily. Fancast aggregates TV content from more than 100 sites and also has blogs, live chats, pictorials, and more.

I just got through catching up on a TLC show that I hadn't seen in a while: 18 Kids and Counting! I have been so far removed from that one that I thought she only had 16 kids!

Delightful Pretend Play Kitchens with Free Shipping, and $5 off!

Delightful Pretend Play Kitchens with Free Shipping, and $5 off!

I know that one of the top gift ideas every season are play kitchens! Graham doesn't currently have one, but he is constantly playing with his friend Claire's when he goes over for visits. Pretend play kitchens are toys that seem to last for a very long time and cover a very broad age group so that they are "fun" longer!

Pretend Play Kitchens is a great site for finding the perfect kitchen set! They offer FREE shipping on all orders as well as a $5 off coupon when you sign up for their mailing list! Pretend Play Kitchens sent us the Primary Toaster Set by Kid Kraft for review. I love wooden toys because they seem to stand the test of time! The color of this set is great because it is very gender neutral.

The Primary Toaster Set is actually functional! You just pop the wooden toast into the toaster and push down the lever. To pop the toast back out you press the yellow button on the side. This set comes with a plate, butter that is slice able (Velcro), two pieces of wooden toast, the toaster, and a wooden play butter knife. You will also be glad to know that there is no assembly necessary! It is such a fun addition to any play kitche n you may have and is sure to stand the test of time! The Primary Toaster Set retails for $37.95.If you like the Toaster Set, you also need to check out the Smoothie Set (complete with wooden blender) and the Baking Set (complete with mixer)! They are all so adorable and look very similar to the actual cooking utensils so that your child will feel like they are really a part of the kitchen. The play kitchens equally as adorable and come in several different styles and prices so that you are sure to find one that meets your child's needs as well as your wallet!

See it in Action:

NEW! Zippity Learning System by Leap Frog

NEW! Zippity Learning System by Leap Frog

Leap Frog is becoming one of those names that I truly believe in lately. Graham loves his Tag Jr and now they have come out with an amazing game system that gets your preschooler moving! Zippity is like your child's very own Wii that they can operate themselves.

We were sent the Zippity by Leap Frog to review a few weeks ago. At first I was worried that it would be too big for Graham (he is 2 1/2), but he caught on pretty quickly. I will say that I think when he is a little older he will understand and enjoy it much more. Zippity is meant for ages 3-5 to bring activity to learning. The Zippity uses Playhouse Disney shows and turns them into interactive games.

Once we got the Zippity out of the box it was fairly easy to set up. Luckily our inputs for the cords were located on the side of our television instead of the back (I'm pretty sure that most current televisions are created this way to make it easier on you when using game systems). You will need C batteries so you might want to pick those up so your child can start playing as soon as you set it up. It comes with eight built in activities with 2 levels of play on each. The activities feature Handy Many, Little Einsteins, My Friends Tigger and Pooh and more!

Zippity works by placing your feet on the mat and following the instructions on screen. You can scroll through activities with the bopper and then select them by stepping on the green part of the pad. Once the activity starts your child will be prompted to use multiple parts of the mat that gets them jumping, dancing, and moving around! Graham really loves the Handy Manny activity that teaches colors by playing with the different tools! You can also purchase separate game cartridges to use in the Zippity. I'm sure Graham would love the one that features Cars! Zippity is also compatible with the online Learning Path so that parents can monitor how their child is learning.

This interactive game was also the winner of the 2009 Practical Preschool Bronze Award. I love the fact that this integrates the full body because all children learn differently. The truth is, the more you involve yourself in learning, the quicker you pick up on it. I think Zippity is a great tool for reinforcing some valuable and different learning styles. You can purchase Zippity for about $79 at most local stores or Amazon.

This product was provided free of charge by Leap Frog. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

The Jimmies now on DVD!

The Jimmies now on DVD!

One of Graham's favorite bands is now on DVD! He was sent The Jimmies music video DVD to review and can now watch and dance along to his favorite songs. You can read my review about the music here. This music is fun for both parents and kids to listen to. They have also received a Best Toy and Parent's Choice Award! The Jimmies are really on a roll, and with good reason.

The music videos are adorable and funny! Our favorite is "Do the Elephant" which is all about covering your mouth with your arm when you sneeze. The video cracks us up each time!

Check out the Jimmies at GimmeJimmes.com!
