Christmas Traditions. Extra Entries on the Here Comes Santa Claus Giveaways!

Last week our family took part in something we do every year on the same day. Every Thanksgiving day we take a trip up the mountain to find the perfect Christmas Tree! We always travel to the same Christmas Tree farm that has the same sweet family who operates it. Each year the weather is different. There have been times when we are picking out our tree in short sleeves and other times when we have hats and gloves and shiver the entire time! My husband also gets all of our Christmas CDs out for the season.
This year it was magical because it actually started snowing right when we found our perfect tree! You can see the story of our trip here:
Now Piera and I want to hear what your Christmas Traditions are!

Holiday Cookie Exchange with HERSHEY'S.
I am really not much of a cook, but I adore baking! I especially love to bake around the holidays. There's just something about the chill in the air that makes it seem like the right thing to do! I love finding new recipes and ideas from friends and constantly am scouring the internet for new creative ideas. One of my favorite companies has actually created a website to help baker's like me exchange ideas. The HERSHEY'S KISSES Cookie Exchange is making it easier by allowing readers to share baking secrets and favorite recipes.

My favorite part of the site is browsing all of the recipes. I really want to try out the Double KISSES Truffles! They look delicious (well, anything with chocolate in the middle sounds great to me)! We have actually made the Peanut Butter Blossoms recipe. It is a great idea for a quick, cheap, and easy cookie!

So have you ever hosted a cookie exchange? I personally haven't, but it is starting to sound like a great idea! You just invite a few friends and have them make about a half dozen to a dozen cookies per person at the party. They also write down the recipe to share. Not only do you have a chance to hang out with friends and family, but you also get to sample some really great cookie recipes. I love the idea offered on the HERSHEY'S KISSES Cookie Exchange site that says to offer up some gift tags and foil so that guest can actually create gifts for co-workers and friends from the cookies at the party. Actually, this could be a great way to save money this Christmas season!
3 Bags of HERSHEY'S KISSES were provided free of charge by HERSHEY'S. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Holiday Ham with Cook's!

I'll admit it, I am really not all that great when it comes to cooking large meats like spiral hams, turkeys, hens, or any large meat that need preparation. I really just can't stomach it! I normally find a willing family member to do the cooking of the ham or turkey on Thanksgiving. So, when Cook's Ham contacted me to try out their spiral ham for the holidays I was thrilled to have an easier cooking option! Unfortunately, there was no Cook's Ham to be found where I live! The good news is I can still go to the website for ideas on how to prepare a ham which will definitely come in handy.
Cook's Ham offers a bone-in ham (the old fashioned way) which is said to have a more natural texture and taste. The hams are smoked for hours using real hickory wood (I know this is a bonus thanks to my husband and his hickory chip grilling skills)! Cook's also offers boneless hams, pork shoulder picnics, seasoning ham, salt pork, and corn beef briskets.

Visit the Cook's website to find out how to cook it, carve it, and gather recipes that will help you have a more successful holiday meal! They've even provided Ham TV that gives you helpful videos on how to prepare a holiday ham.
This giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Renee G!

Songs 'n' Smiles Sillytown. Great Baby Gift Idea that Grows!
I think that the hardest Christmas for us was when we had a 9 month old. What do you buy a 9 month old for Christmas? We didn't want just more "stuff" to fill up our house for the sake of buying gifts and we most certainly did not want gifts that he was going to out grow in a few months.A great idea that solves several problems in one gift is the Songs 'n' Smiles Sillytown by Fisher-Price. There are so many features to this toy that will entertain a wide range of ages (6 months-36 months). The roller bar is perfect for the youngest! Once it is in motion, lights and sounds happen all around. The friendly faces inside the Stack 'n' Surprise blocks also peek-a-boo in and out. It is absolutely adorable! As babies grow and develop more fine motor skills, they can put the car on the ramp and watch it speed down or place a block on the tower, press the lever and watch it tumble to the ground.
There are several places to stack the blocks in the Songs 'n' Smiles Sillytown, fostering fine motor skill development. The peek-a-boo blocks are great for establishing object permanence as well. Launching the car on the ramp and the blocks on the tower helps to teach cause and effect. Mom and dad, you will love the fact that all of the loose pieces store nicely in the built-in storage bin. Kids will have fun dropping the friendly blocks into the bin by way of the chute!

Graham is now 2 1/2 and he still likes to play with this toy. He also likes to incorporate some of his other toy cars into the Sillytown. It is fun to watch them become more creative as they get older. It is also nice knowing that there is a versatile product that will teach different developmental milestones as your child is ready! After all, play is how babies learn and it is so much fun watching them do it!
See it in Action:
You can purchase the Songs 'n' Smiles Sillytown from retailers near you for about $54. It comes with 8 peek-and-pop action blocks and over 16 songs and sounds. 3 C batteries are also included (talk about a sanity saver).
This product was provided free of charge by Fisher-Price. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Belly Charms. Custom Jewelry for Moms.

The one piece of jewelry that my mother has that I have always been fond of his my grandmother's "Mother's Ring." It has the birthstones of all of my uncles as well as my mom and has been in our family for quite a while and has such a sentimental value. I love gifts that have meaning behind them, which is why I am more than excited to introduce you to Belly Charms!
Belly Charms has several different personalized items to choose from (pendants, bracelets, anklets, and more). Sonya Mattey is the mother behind the store and pays close attention to detail. It is always nice to know that an actual person is creating the jewelry that you are ordering and that she handles each order with pride.

We were sent a customized bracelet and I am in love with how simple and beautiful it is! I was able to choose from either Swarovski Crystal or Pearl and which colors among them I would like. I was also able to customize which color silver I wanted. You can even decide how many strands you would like which is perfect for multiple children or even grandmothers. I think it is nice that she allows you to choose what size you will need because not everyone's wrist is the same size. Belly Charms definitely has an attention to detail and they work fast! The flat rate shipping is $2.50 no matter what you order!

I am excited that I know have my very own piece of jewelry that can be cherished and handed down through the generations! You really can't put a price on unique customized items that touch your heart!
A bracelet from Belly Charms is sure to be a gift that lasts a lifetime. This would be a wonderful idea for Christmas, a baby shower, or Mother's Day. I think it would even be a sweet anniversary gift idea (hint, hint to all the guys out there reading this). Most bracelets range in price from $39.99-$134.99. Right now until December 1st you can receive FREE shipping on all orders over $15 until 12/5 with no coupon code needed.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas!
If I were to take a survey on how many people grew up with a Mr. Potato Head I imagine the number would be outstanding. Over the years Mr. Potato Head has had many different variations of "costumes" and appearances and continues to delight children.

Graham received the Captain Potato Chips and has been having a fun time taking him apart and putting him back together. Captain Potato Chips comes with his very own eye patch, parrot, pirate hat, boots, and hook arm! It is hilarious! Graham also likes to plug the arms where the legs go, the ears into the eyes, and top it all off with the hat just to be funny! I guess that's just part of the creativity that goes along with Mr. Potato Head. Right now there are some adorable options to suit your child's personality! I am also very fond of the Firefighter Spud and the Princess Sweet Potato!

What makes this a great gift idea is not only the entertainment value, but the price tag! You can pick up assorted Mr. Potato Head characters for about $9.99! A gift that is under $10 is unbeatable. If you already have a Mr. Potato Head and want to give it a facelift, you can purchase new parts for less than $4.00.

For the girls in your life there is the I-Dog Plush Puppy! Now girls ages 6 and up can take their tunes with them! All she has to do is pop her MP3 player into the I-Dog Plush Puppy and let the sweet pink puppy rock out right along with her. This is a smaller, more portable version of the larger I-Dog Soft Speaker and still has the I-Dog color dots (representation only) on its face.
I know when I was a little girl I always wanted my Walkman with me. I would've flipped if there had been a version of this for my Walkman! I can see girls using these for sleep overs, birthday parties, or just going around town. What a great stocking stuffer idea for your music loving gal.
You can find the I-Dog Plush Puppy for about $14.99 at local retailers or at the HasbroToyShop.com.
These products was provided free of charge by Hasbro. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

Maukilo. Toys that Stand the Test of Time! {Here Comes Santa Claus $50 Gift Card Giveaway}
Toys are a dime a dozen, but finding a unique toy that is great quality can be a little harder to find. I know that if I am going to spend my money on it, I don't want just another useless "thing" to fill up my house or the toy box. Maukilo is a wonderful online store to check out when you are looking for the gift that goes beyond "keeping up with the Joneses." They are owned by one of my favorite companies, HABA! HABA specializes in unique wooden toys that are full of whimsy, imagination, and fun... much like what you will find at Maukilo.
As a child, I remember bouncing on an inflatable ball with a handle. All you had to do was hold on and bounce. It was such a simple idea yet so much fun. For the last few months I have thought about getting a bouncing ball for Graham to play with, but they are all just a little too big for a toddler. He has been using his plastic balls from Walmart to bounce on which is proving to be rather unsafe! Luckily, Maukilo generously sent Graham the Gymnic Rody Jumping Horse for review.
This inflatable horse helps a child learn balance and control. It has a saddle height of 12" so even the very little ones can enjoy. As your child grows you simply add more air so they can continue to bounce. The Rody Horse is made of latex free vinyl and is super strong. Graham gets a kick out of it and was just bouncing on it this morning say "Yee-haw!" It is nice because I'm not worried about him falling off and he really has good control over it. The Rody Jumping Horse is definitely full of quality. I can see us keeping this and passing it down to a future child as well. The Rody Hose sells for about $44.95.

Tickle Tap Apps. More PreSchool Fun for your iPhone
If you have a child that is working on numbers or shapes, or maybe you have a little one that you need to keep entertained, there are some new iPhone apps you should check out.
Tickle Tap Apps has created Sound Shaker, Sort Slider, and Count Caddy. We were given the opportunity to try out Sort Slider as well as Count Caddy. Graham is pretty much a pro when it comes to using the iPhone and caught on quickly to both games.
First of all
, the artwork used on these apps are adorable! I love how they have a clean and modern feel. I also think that this helps little ones (clean lines are good). The Sort Slider offers your child an object in the middle and two objects on either side of the screen. One object is the same, the other is completely different. It is up to your child to tilt the phone towards the side of the object that matches in order to have a correct answer. Graham really gets a kick out of this one, mostly because it is easy for him and because he can use the phone in a different way than his other iPhone games.
Count
Caddy features Jinja the cat, Robin the bird, and Harvey the dog in order to help reinforce counting skills. The first level has your child moving the balls of yarn into a circle with Jinja the cat. As your preschooler continues in the game, they are moved along to higher levels that include counting by twos and threes. Graham also caught onto this game rather quickly and seems to enjoy it. This is the first app I have tried that teaches counting by twos and threes (which is something I value about it).
You can purchase the apps for $1.99 in the iTunes Store.
These apps were provided free of charge by Tickle Tap Apps. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.

The Toy Industry Association (TIA) wants to make sure parents are in the know about toy safety and has created two sites to help us out! TIA is the same association that hosts the Toy Fair in New York as well as helped lead toy makers through the new safety testing laws. Basically, they know what is up when it comes to toy safety!
Safety:
Visit ToyInfo.org to sign up for recall alerts and to learn about what is new with safety. You can check out regular updates here!

Borders Just Got Better!
Borders is not just a book store anymore. I know that books are the first thing that comes to mind when ever I hear "Borders". Well, if you are lucky enough to have a Borders around, you are going to love what I am about to let you in on! They are expanding their toys and games section and they have included some pretty impressive items. They have wonderful educational toys from companies you know and trust and are adding them to over 500 stores!Unfortunately, I do not live close enough to a Borders store in order to shop the new expanded section, but I was sent a sampling of what they are offering and I am highly impressed. You will find items from brands like Creativity for Kids, Thinkfun, Scientific Explorer, Melissa and Doug, ALEX and Blue Orange Games. Actually, the Melissa and Doug toys are buy one get one 50% off until December 28th!

There are items for all ages. You will be sure to find something that will suit the unique personality of your child or the child you are buying for. I know as a kid I always loved getting items that had more of an educational and creative edge to them. I bet you will find things that will not be "repeat" gifts and will not end up at the bottom of the toy box either! Great toys like the Craft All Day by ALEX for preschoolers or the Magic Science Wizard's Kit by Scientific Explorer will definitely keep your kids busy and thinking!
THIS WEEK: Receive $10 off your purchase of $20 or more at Borders! Now that is a great deal! If you combine that with the half off Melissa and Doug products you could save a lot of money.
Save even more with Borders Rewards. There's no fee, and no card to carry around. You earn rewards every time you shop at Borders or online at Borders.com.
Product was provided free of charge by Borders. These are my honest opinions on the product. I do not post reviews on products I can not stand behind. Please see my Terms of Use for more info.
