How to Create a Smokey Eye Look and CATTIVA Coupon Code {Video Tutorial}

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 Posted by Felicia

I am so notorious for doing my make-up at the last minute that I have come up with some quick tricks to get trendy looks in less time!  When you are a mom you just have to do what works.  We were recently sent the Mineral Eye Shadow Quad by CATTIVA and I thought it would be a perfect time to show you how this busy mom "does" her eyes in the morning!

First of all, you need to start with a good base.  If you are not going to use a foundation or tinted moisturizer you need to at least moisturize your face.  Not only is this good for your skin, but it will keep your eye make-up from leaving you mid day.  Just a tip!  Once you have a base you can start with your lightest color.  Generally you are going to use a white or off white color.  The Mineral Eye Shadow Quad from CATTIVA is perfect because it is all mineral and smooths on easily.  Using your pinky finger (because it is easier to control your own finger and you don't need to spend money on more beauty items) cover your entire lid and highlight your brow with the white shade.

Once you have your white shade to a color you are satisfied with, start by adding in a darker tone.  With the CATTIVA Mineral Eye Shadow Quad I went with the more taupe color first.  Here's the trick: think of the corner of your eye as a point of the letter "V".  Using your pinky finger trace a "V" on your eye lid.  Make sure not to cover the entire eye lid, and make the point of the "V" (edge of your eye) the darkest point.  Next take your second dark shade (I chose the silver) and highlight over the "V".  You can even blend into the rest of the lid up to the halfway mark.  The darker you make this the more dramatic it will become.  You can even drag a little of the corner of the "V" towards the edge of your face for more emphasis.

Last, you are going to use the darkest color in your palette (the black if you are using the CATTIVA Mineral Eye Shadow Quad in Capri).  Using your pinky line the point of the "V" and the edge of your lashes only.  Again, the darker you apply this the more dramatic it will become.  Make sure to finish off with mascara.

Here is the Video Tutorial I created:

If you are like me you are going to keep this on the light side.  This is what I do most days for heading out and going to work.  But, on special occasions and date nights (few and far between) I will darken this up and add eyeliner.  Make sure to check out the video tutorial for a first hand look at how to achieve this look.

If you are looking for the perfect eye shadow to create a smokey eye, check out the CATTIVA Mineral Eye Shadow Quads.  They are priced at about $32 and are sold straight from the CATTIVA website.
