Real Nappies Cloth Diapers {review}

Thursday, February 02, 2012 Posted by Felicia

We all know that when you have a baby, diapers are a part of your daily routine. The "what" and "how" are the only things up for debate: Some people choose disposables, some choose cloth, and still others choose a hybrid of diapers. Mommy wars in the blogosphere can start over this touchy topic--what's better for baby and the environment? What's better for  mom and the household?

I've diapered three kiddos so far and have used all three options--we've done disposables exclusively, cloth exclusively, and a bit of both at the same time. As a somewhat weathered mom, I've learned that no matter what you read or hear, the way you diaper doesn't define you or your family!

Somehow, with three kids 3 and under, we've found that using cloth diapers works best for us right now--it saves us tons of money and it gets my kids out of diapers sooner. My first two were potty-trained by 19-months and I really have cloth diapering to thank for that.  Plus, I'm often too busy to run to the store in search of diapers or spend time trying to find the best deal on disposables--having reusable diapers at the ready in my house is such a relief!

While it is certainly possible that we would switch back to disposables (my husband even works for a company that manufactures them!) I've been using a new-to-me type of cloth diapers that are so wonderful I don't foresee the need to do so anytime soon.

We were given a Cloth Diapers Top-Up Pack from Real Nappies to review and review them we did--I've been using them for two weeks on my 2-month old daughter for everything from simply wet diapers to huge nearly-blowout diapers and daytime to nighttime use. They are wonderful!!!

If you've ever cloth diapered before here's why I love these diapers so much:
  • If you switch from pocket diapers you'll be wondering why you wasted your time with them--these diapers are SO easy--simply (and quickly!) fold up the prefold insert, place it inside your diaper cover and you're ready to put it on your baby. No stuffing needed!
  • You get way more bang for your buck with covers and inserts--as long as your infant doesn't poo on the cover, you can reuse it until it gets soiled. I've been able to go two whole days with just the two covers included in the Cloth Diapers Essential Pack
  • No leaks! no leaks! let me say it again--no leaks! I cannot believe that a simple prefold + cover has been so incredible. I change my daughter roughly every 2-3 hours during the day and we've had no issues. Bonus? I've accidentally let her fall asleep for the night while wearing these diapers and she still doesn't leak through. BULLET PROOF!!!
  • No microsuede or microfiber to deal with--just natural cotton that has never given my daughter even a hint of a rash!
  • Despite not having leg gussets, the leg openings fit my skinny-legged daughter without any issue.
  • as a seasoned cloth diaperer, these are now my go-to diapers that I reach for first--i never ever would have guessed that going into this review
If you're a disposable-momma, here's what I think you'd appreciate about these diapers:
  • They aren't scary--even though prefolds and covers sound like something your mom or grandma used they are simple and quick to put together and put on--no fuss or muss and certainly no pinning!
  • They are so economical it's crazy. AND they come with a two-child guarantee! Two for the price of one? Sign me up!
  • I've had no blow-outs with newborn poo whatsoever when using these diapers. When we used disposables, I always cringed whenever my daughter would start to eliminate--I knew we'd end up changing her outfit. Not with these! I'll even dress her in cute outfits while wearing these diapers and not worry about it.

 The Top-Up Pack we tried is currently $34.99 and the Essentials Pack is $69.99. If you have any cloth diaper questions, feel free to shoot me an email about them--I'd be happy to help!
