I learn something new everyday being the mom of two boys. One thing I know that is true about boys (at least mine) is that they really love hands activities and learn better that way. They definitely have a ton of energy, but this goes beyond them having energy. Whenever they are putting things together and using their mechanical skills I can see the wheels spinning in their minds. I am amazed at the way they already have such engineering minds. I believe in finding your child’s learning style and making the most of it. Davis is definitely a Kinesthetic learner (hands on). Graham could easily fall under Kinesthetic or Auditory (listening). I’m sure as Davis grows I will notice that he has more than just one learning style.
Taking learning styles into consideration, it is important to also focus fun activities that encourage learning. After all, the youngest kids learn by playing! So, when Educational Insights contacted me about reviewing a few of their items I was thrilled to not only experience well researched toys with my boys but also to share with you a few items that go above and beyond the usual. You know me and my quest for something more (in every sense of the word).
Whether you are going on a road trip or just playing at home the Design and Drill Tool Kit is a MUST for your Christmas list! No kidding. It isn’t often that I recommend a product as a must but this is definitely one. Both boys really enjoy this kit and spend a lot of time with it during the day. Davis (2 years old) loves it the most and is really good at using it. Of course, he doesn’t necessarily create designs, but he loves to drill the screws in and out of the case. This is such a great way to help develop fine motor skills, color recognition, and pattern recognition. The Design and Drill Tool Kit comes with one battery operated screwdriver with 3 bits. Each of the bits works on all of the screws so you don’t have to worry with that frustration. The screwdriver will allow the child to reverse or go forward. Pack the drill bits and screws inside the kit when you are on the go. The only thing that would make this toy perfect would be if the screwdriver fit inside. Davis loves to use the handle to carry it around to different areas of the house. $29.99.
GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope
I remember my very first microscope. I enjoyed finding every day objects and looking at them in detail (ok, and the occasional dead bug). The GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope is a lot like my very first microscope but with so many more details and features. This has been perfect for Graham (age 5). Unlike my old microscope, the GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope actually offers fun facts about what your child is viewing on the 12 already prepared slides. It also challenges your child to remember the facts with fun quizzes. I appreciate that this microscope provides a light which makes viewing your prepared slides easy. The magnification is 5X which is enough for your younger elementary aged child. Who wouldn’t love to receive this as a birthday or Christmas present? I also like that the price is not outrageous for what you are getting. $39.99.
If you have never visited the Educational Insights website I would highly encourage you to take a look. You will find so many unique options that will be played with time and time again instead of finding their way into the toy box after day one.
Now one lucky Go Graham Go reader will win both the Design and Drill Tool Kit and the GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope! Here’s How:
